在历史观察中，我们总是看到，一些杰出的思想家总是当代的孤独者。为什么会有这种现象，个人认为可能大致有如下三方面的原因，供大家参考。

一是认识上的差距所致。因为杰出的思想，总是有一个被人认识的过程或被认可的过程。旧的思想总是有惯性的。新思想总是先被年轻人所接受。只有当老一代人退去，新一代人成长起来后，新思想才可能逐渐被认可或被传播。

二是利益所致。因为杰出的思想一旦出现，总是对旧思想的利益形成威胁，包括对一些学术权威人物的社会政治经济地位可能会形成威胁。在这种情况下，旧的学术权威人物有可能会极力阻挠新思想的传播，或不予理睬，让新思想搁置。

三是嫉妒所致。新思想的出现，也面临社会嫉妒的威胁。嫉妒是社会的通病。在当代，你若产生了新思想，对当代没有产生新思想的人而言，就是贬损。并且这种嫉妒与社会距离成正比例。也就是一个人与另一个人的社会距离越近，嫉妒的动力越大。什么是社会距离，就是社会利益关联度。若关联度越大，则社会距离越近。

三个方面的合力，导致杰出的思想家在当代，总是孤独者。

但思想的光芒总是难以遮掩的，是金子总是要发光的。虽然杰出的思想家在当代总是孤独者，但在后世，总有机会光辉灿烂。因为在后世，一是认识上的差距会逐渐消失；二是利益阻扰会逐渐减少；三是嫉妒动力会逐渐减弱。
